Washington, D.C. is typically known for its politics and monuments, but beneath the bluster of the city’s talking heads, a group of artists and musicians called Distant Creatures are showing off a more sonically sensuous side of the capital. Distant Creatures are a five piece dreamy indie pop band led by charismatic Persian singer Mina Karimi’s poetic vocals and shimmering guitars. Playing together for four years, they have performed live regionally and have released a single and album so far with Appalachian Groove Records and Custom Made Music.
Distant Creatures formed in the summer of 2015 by guitarists Chris and Dane who shared a love for English shoegaze and indie bands of the 80s and 90s. They were soon joined vocalist Mina Karimi and rhythm section of Ben and Carlos. In 2016 they released a debut single "Escape" through AGR / Custom Made Records. Soon after the band retreated to rural Virginia and began work on recording a full length album. In summer of 2017 their debut LP Snares in Safe Harbors was released via Custom Made Music. Their follow up LP was recorded over 8 months in Frederick MD and is set for a summer 2019 release.
